Carter Darling’s life has been a whirlwind since his mother was elected to the senate when he was a teen. From private school to joining the military, he tried to forge his own path while making as few ripples as possible. But an injury forced him to figure out new goals for his life. After his parents were involved in a sex scandal, he decided to go back home to Tennessee to get some distance and get away from the madness.

He didn’t bargain on Jeremy Beck returning at the same time.
Jeremy was finally past the rich boy angst that made for some dramatic teenage years, but he hadn’t earned back much respect from his parents by playing in an indie band. Now that his band was on hiatus, Jeremy was looking for space from his unhealthy non-relationship with a band mate, so returning home to figure out his next step seemed like the way to go.

Their initial reunion turned awkward. Carter was still holding on to hurts from their last meeting and Jeremy was trying to convince himself that Carter was still just his sister’s closeted little friend. But when they open up to one another again and decide a staycation fling would be a nice distraction, they may get more than they bargained for.

For two guys who’ve had so much drama in their lives, it might surprise them to find that sometimes love is found in the simple things. Who knew?

Simple Things edition by Kade Boehme Heidi Ryan Literature Fiction eBooks

It was kind of classic Kade, I guess. A little bit like Chance of the Heart. It started out seeming kind of disjointed to me. The reasons Jeremy and Carter were at odds seemed to come out in bits and pieces and didn't feel like it flowed well. Then so much of it seemed rather static. We weren't given any real information about what they might have talked about. It seems it couldn't have been much, since neither ever discussed much of anything beyond sex. There was one conversation that seemed to start about Carters knee and there was nothing but a bracket saying something like; [discuss accident]. The story wasn't bad, by any means, but felt too incomplete to me.

Simple Things edition by Kade Boehme Heidi Ryan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

The Author Kade Boehme really out did himself this time with this story. The Main Characters Jeremy, and Carter were wonderful. Jeremy Trying to stay sober. Carter Shy, and the only man he loved was his friend. This story was well written, with a strong characters, and storyline. That's why I rated this book 5 stats.
Never found a book by Kade I didn't like. There is something about his stories that allows you to immerse yourself in their lives and feel their pain and their job....Simple things is a beautiful tale about finding your way home, not just physically but emotionally. Colored with everything you would want from a gay drama Simple things is simply brilliant
This was such a lovely, sweet, uncomplicated romance. Likeable and fully realised characters, just the right amount of angst and sweetness and hotness. It manages to be uncomplicated and low-key without being boring or resorting to melodrama to create interest. Just a wonderful, sweet, enjoyable, fun (sexy) romance that will give you all the warm and fuzzies.
Another winner by one of my favorite authors. Kade Boehme writes stories that are a balance of looking for love to finding it with that one person who was meant for you. This story was a fine example of his craft. Read it. You will enjoy it as much as I did.
So, what could I say that would properly explain how much I greatly enjoyed this book. Probably not enough but I’m going to try.

You first start the book with poor Carter is in the middle of turmoil. Well not completely but still stuck in the middle of drama not of his own making. I loved Carters sweet and loving nature so much. He is someone who watches out for his friends but they also watch out for him because he can easily be hurt.

Then we come to Jeremy. The description of Jeremy sounds like your typical bad boy but as the story progresses you realize that that is just a protective layer for him. He really his a sweet guy but he just needed to get his head out of his big behind to realize it. Thank the stars above that Carter is just that person to help him realize that.

The chemistry, we they reconnect again, starts off slow which works for these two. When the feelings start getting stronger for both of them that’s when things get more complicated. Instead of talking to each other though they kept things to themselves and almost messed it up for everyone. Now, in my opinion, this is where a lot of people nowadays mess up. Just like with Jeremy and Carter, when things started getting serious there is no communication. Just talk to each other!

From the moment I picked up this book I couldn’t put it down. Just like any other really good book out there you’re going to like it, you’re going to get upset with characters at times, but most importantly you’re going to absolutely fall in love with Jeremy and Carter. I personally hope this isn’t the last we see of these two.
I fell in love with the two main characters - Carter & Jeremy - from the beginning. This book quality - too really identify with & like the main characters of a book or movie - is prerequisite #1 for me. These two came from different backgrounds, but got to know each other through Carter's friendship with Jeremy's younger sister.
I loved how they came into each other's presence again after several years, and this when their previous parting was not a fond memory.
To cut a long story short Jeremy is sexually experienced while Carter is just about totally inexperienced. How the latter changed when these two young grown-ups found ways to express their deep feelings for each other, is quite precious.
The story's backdrop about their different families, (with ample details about these families), was a good segue in and out of the main characters' love development. The following sentence very near the end of this novel sums up this wonderful book best "Turns out, nothing was better for the introverted prince than being dragged out of his tower by his red hair by a moody, playful musician."
I highly recommend this book to lovers of good m2m romance stories. Well done Kade Boehme!!
Kade Boehme has this uncommon ability to bring together complete opposites and turn them into angsty, soul-searching, selfish, and terribly needful lovers. In this one he scores with a closeted, reclusive red headed, creamy skinned son of a U.S. Senator and a slightly older friend from his youth who is a budding rock star, bigger, covered in tattoos, and completely over-the-top as a free spirit--and openly gay.

Carter the Ginger and Jeremy the Hunk have a history of sorts, and they also have histories involving other people which totally and completely mess up their lives and plans for the future--even after they become reacquainted and get to like each other again.

This is an "extended family reunion" journey amongst the privileged but not genteel Southern folk whom Boehme knows very, very well. That there is deep support and a good deal of hypocritical attitudes thrown in could have wrecked the eventual story line with too many conflicts. But Boehme does his usual splendid job of lighting a torch and leading everyone out of the deep by the time the Epilogue is over. Cool book.
